JAT: Jewish Emergency

Urgent: Jews are fighting for their lives in Israel. Jewish fathers have picked up guns to defend their wives and children and neighbors. We can at least pick up a pen.

JAT campaign: 10,000 letters/calls/faxes/emails a day!

BACKGROUND

President Bush, a friend of Israel and the Jewish people, has his eye on the world game-board, where Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden are simply bigger pieces than Yasser Arafat.

America needs from the Arab tyrannies in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, and from Turkey as well, the use of bases to attack Iraq and destroy her weapons of mass destruction. He is being told that Arab and Muslim masses will not permit their rulers to cooperate with the US if America supports the Israeli clean-up of terror-nests in Israel.

We need to tell President Bush that the fight against Islamic terror cannot be divided, that if terror is rewarded or left unconfronted in Israel, it will gain enormous strength worldwide. If the US allows Israel to be weakened, the US, too, will be weakened.

JAT has learned that the West-Coast director of AIPAC, Elliot Brandt, is calling for 10,000 letters per week. We must do even more. We must create a flood of letters/faxes and calls, first to the White House, then to other decision makers.

JAT is initiating a "10,000 Letters a Day" campaign. We can do this. We must do this.

It can work this way:

1. Make letter-writing/calling/emailing a daily habit.

2. JAT will send sample letters -- keep a running file.

Edit or just send as is.

3. JAT will connect with major organizations who are planning electronic letters, like the Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles.

YOU have to do your part. YOU have to make it a daily habit to spend 5 or 10 minutes for Israel. Suggestions:

1. Set aside a time of day for this: Best is when you normally look over all your email -- use that time to write a letter for Israel.

2. Suggested procedure:

During weekday hours, try calling first. Read the JAT message. Pick one simple theme or message. Practice it once mentally. Calling is easy (when it is possible to get through). The operators simply jot down "Pro" or "Against" a policy. They don't engage you on content.

BE POLITE.

If the line is busy (or outside weekday hours), then write a letter to the President and send it by fax, if you can. It takes about 7 minutes. Make it short or long, but be clear and polite and thank him for supporting Jews and Israel. You can use our sample letters exactly as we send them out or edit them or write your own from scratch.

You can email as well, but we know that letters are better. Faxes are better than emails, and almost as easy for you do send.

But we MUST call and write every day. And we must make this a habit. Ask your friends to write.

TODAY'S EMERGENCY LETTER

Subject: Let Israel Finish the CLEANUP of TERRORISTS

Dear President Bush,

Please allow Israel the time to finish hunting down the extensive terrorist network in the Palestinian territories, where Arafat has created a culture of death and murder.

The fight against Islamic terror cannot be divided. If terror is rewarded or left unconfronted in Israel, it will gain enormous strength worldwide, and leaders like Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden will be further emboldened. If the US allows Israel to be weakened, the US, too, will be weakened.

You have been a great friend to Israel, and my community appreciates the way you are fighting this war on terrorism. For the sake of a free and safe civilization, STAND WITH ISRAEL clearly, and give her the room she needs to root out terrorism before you press her to withdraw from the territories.

Thank you.

* make your viewpoint clear in the first sentence; * do not use inflammatory or abusive language; * be specific, positive, and professional; * let your points do the talking;

* letters sent by fax or postal mail are probably more effective than email messages; phone calls may be even more effective.
