Torah Scrolls needed in the IDF

There is a severe shortage of Torah scrolls in the Israeli Army, according to chaplains serving in the field. To help ameliorate the problem, the National Council of Young Israel idf@youngisrael.org has called on all American Jewish communities and synagogues to donate unused Torah scrolls. Army Chaplain Captain Yedidya Atlas says, "In response to the terrorist attacks over the past ten months, many more security checkpoints and guard posts have been established by the Israeli army. Each of these positions which have ten soldiers or more assigned to them needs a Torah scroll so that the soldiers can benefit from full daily and Sabbath prayer services, without having to go far from their posts."
