Tehiya is gone

A fund has been established to assist the Bloomberg Family of Ginot Shomron. On August 5th, Tehiya, aleh la shalom, was shot and killed by terrorists, Her husband, Steve is seriously wounded and still in the hospital and one of their daughters, Tzipora, 14 years old, is also in the hospital, paralyzed from the waist down. The four other children, raniging in age from 6 to 13, are struggling at home. Please read the attached files for more details of how you can help this family cope with this terrible tragedy.

Tehiya is gone. Gunned down in front of her young children as she drove home. A wife. A mother. Our friend.

Tragic. Devastating. Demoralizing. Horrific. All these words seem so inadequate to describe the pain of what has happened to Tehiya and her family.

Tehiya was a veritable institution in Ginot Shomron. A nurse in the local clinic, she calmly offered aid and comfort to residents over the last 12 years. Her calm presence, peace of mind, and modesty were the very essence of Tehiya, and the family and community mourn an immeasurable loss. Tehiya's husband, Steve, originally from London, was seriously wounded and is hospitalized in serious condition since the shooting on August 5. His injuries are many, and the rehabilitation he faces before he can return home to care for his broken family is a long one. Tehiya's eldest child, Tzipora, 14 years old, is in a nearby hospital's Spinal Unit, where friends and neighbors hold vigil, never leaving her side. Tzipora lost her mother¡Ä and the ability to ever walk again. She is paralyzed from the waist down. The Bloomberg¡Çs four other children, Noam, 13, Shira, 11, Yisrael, 8 and Hagai 6, are confused and distraught. And dealing with what is perhaps everyone's worst nightmare.

The surviving Bloombergs are being cared for by their family and friends in Ginot Shomron. Our community has mobilized in force to offer any and all assistance. Volunteers are running the household, planning meals, and hospital visits. And offering all the emotional and financial support they possibly can.

So many people from all over the world have turned to our community to ask what they can do. There is so much to do that it is difficult to even grasp the magnitude of assistance that will be required¡¾especially as yet even more families are destroyed in what seems like endless terrorist attacks just days after we lost Tehiya.

Tehiya and Steve's friends and neighbors have established a special fund that will be used to help them on their long road to recovery. The fund will fill in the gaps where the government's resources fall short, and will be used to help make it possible for Steve to return home as quickly as possible to care for his children. To make certain that the children will be able to continue their lives in their home as normally as possible as they cope with the bitter reality of their loss. To help heal the wounds of Tehiya's death.

This means very long and difficult medical procedures and a long and difficult rehabilitation process for the entire family. You can help us help our friends by contributing to this fund. It is being overseen and administered by Tehiya's husband, Steve, her three brothers, Yitzchak, Yehiel and Shaike, a local attorney, and the community Rabbi.

We ask also that you pray for the speedy recovery of Steve, Shimon David ben Chana Gittel, Tehiya's and Steve's daughter, Tzipora bat Tehiya and our neighbor Matan Tzur, Matan ben Michal, who was wounded while traveling with Tehiya's family home to Karnei Shomron.
