We would like to update you on the work of the Teaneck-Bergenfield Tzedakah Committee. The committee has worked for over a year to research, develop and prepare for implementation of a verification system for individuals and organizations seeking to collect funds in our community.
We are pleased to announce that we have completed our pilot project to test out the program. With revisions completed we are now ready to fully implement our verification system.
- Individuals looking to collect in our community will call 201-836-4562 and request an application (or stop by the Beth Aaron office, Monday-Thursday, 9:30 am-12:30 pm, or the Bnai Yeshurun office, Monday-Thursday, 9:30am-4:30pm.) We have created four applications -- one for each of the most common reasons a person solicits funds. These include: Individual Need; Institutional Solicitation; Medical Need; and Hachnosas Kallah. Our aim is to allow the meshulachim to complete only one applicaiton; there can be no collection for multiple cases.
- Individuals will complete the application, attach copies of their supporting documetns and return the package to the Tzedakah committee at P.O. Box 3144, Teaneck, New Jersey 07666.
- The Tzedakah Committee (supported by a paid staff person) will verify the authenticity and validity of need of the individaual through phone calls and letters. This will include contact with other cities where the individual previously received approval.
- After this process is completed, the individual will be invited to meet with the committee for a final review of need and examination of supporting documents.
- Individuals who gain the committee's approval will receive their certificate with a photo, at the completion of the interview.
Over the next few months, we will be processing many requests from meshulachim. We know that as we begin using our system, there will be many revisions and enhancements to the system. We welcome all feedback and suggestions. We also need your help. When meshulachim come to your home, please let them know that our new committee is in operation and everyone will need a certificate in the next few months.
Tzaedakah Commmittee's business cards are available. Please distribute these cards to the meshulachim that come to your home. If you need cards, please call Dovid Schild at 387-9009.
